In business, maintaining accurate information about product manufacturing and expiration dates is critical for quality control, compliance, and traceability. Odoo provides built-in tools to manage these details efficiently during Lot Creation<\/strong> in the Goods Receipt (GR)<\/strong> process of the purchase module.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Configure Manufacturing and Expiration<\/strong> Dates in the Product<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Go to Inventory \u2192 Products\u2192 Product Master<\/strong>, select the product, and open the General Information<\/strong> tab. Set the Tracking<\/strong> field to By Lots<\/strong> or By Serial Number<\/strong>, then enable the Manufacturing Date<\/strong> and Expiration Date<\/strong> options.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After enabling expiration tracking, enter the number of days for the Expiration<\/strong>, Best Before<\/strong>, Removal<\/strong>, and Alert<\/strong> dates. Odoo will use these values to automatically calculate all related expiration dates whenever the product is received into inventory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Select Manufacturing Date in GR<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In Odoo, the Manufacturing Date<\/strong> field plays a vital role during the Goods Receipt (GR)<\/strong> process. To begin, open the Purchase <\/strong>module. In the Requests for Quotation<\/strong> screen, click the +New button to create a new purchase order for the desired product, and once it is confirmed, click the Receive Products<\/strong> button.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When the Manufacturing Date field is enabled in the product master, Odoo makes it mandatory to enter this date during the lot creation<\/strong> stage in GR.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In GR, click the Detailed Operation button, enter the Lot number and click Create. By default, the system sets this date as the previous day<\/strong>, but users must select the accurate manufacturing date before validating the receipt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If the manufacturing date entered is older than the Expiration date configured limit defined for the product, Odoo asks Confirmation stating \u201cYou are going to deliver the product [20102507] BRITANNIA GOOD DAY, 1025-563 which is expired. Do you confirm you want to proceed?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Similarly, if the date is set to today or any future date, the system shows another warning: \u201cManufacturing Date Should be not allowed in Today or Future Date.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The entered Manufacturing Date will also be visible after the GR is validated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Automatic Calculation of Expiration Date fields in the Lot<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Based on the Manufacturing Date entered during Goods Receipt, Odoo automatically calculates all the dates related to expiration in the lot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Suppose you receive a product named Britannia Good Day, <\/em>lot name 1025-000010<\/strong> on November 6, 2025<\/strong>, with the following configuration:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • Expiration Date: 30 days after receipt<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Best Before Date: 10 days before expiration<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Removal Date: 9 days before expiration<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Alert Date: 8 days before expiration<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    When the Manufacturing Date is entered as 10\/10\/2025 17:47:03 in GR, inside the lot Odoo automatically calculates:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    • Expiration Date:<\/strong> 09\/11\/2025 17:47:03 (30 days after the Manufacturing Date)<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Best Before Date:<\/strong> 30\/10\/2025 17:47:03 (10 days before the Expiration Date)<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Removal Date: <\/strong>31\/10\/2025 17:47:03 (9 days before the Expiration Date)<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Alert Date:<\/strong> 01\/11\/2025 17:47:03 (8 days before the Expiration Date)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

      This ensures that every product received into the system has accurate manufacturing and expiration details, traceable through its unique lot number.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
