Product Attribute<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Attributes in Odoo are defining features or properties that describe and differentiate products from the other products Where the products have different values such as color, size, material.<\/strong> For example, a \u201cSandal\u201d<\/strong>might have attributes like Color<\/strong> (Red, Blue, Green) and Size<\/strong> (6, 7, 8). Each unique combination of these attribute values creates a different product variant, such as Sandal – Red – 6<\/em> or Sandal – Blue – 8<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Purpose of Product Attribute<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Attributes allow businesses to manage multiple variations of the same product efficiently, easier inventory tracking, and clearer product listings for customers. Instead of creating each variation manually, attributes help automatically generate all possible combinations, saving time and reducing errors in product management.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Components of an Attribute<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n
Attribute Name<\/strong> \u2013 The name of the characteristic (e.g., Color).\nAttribute Values<\/strong> \u2013 The possible options for the attribute (e.g., Red, Blue, Green).\nDisplay Type<\/strong> \u2013 Defines how the values are shown in the interface (e.g., Radio, Select, Color).\nVariants Creation Mode<\/strong> \u2013 Determines when variants are created:\nInstantly<\/strong> \u2013 Created as soon as the attribute is added.\nDynamically<\/strong> \u2013 Created when the variant is needed.\nNever<\/strong> \u2013 No variant created <\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n

Creating a New Attribute<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n
To create a new attribute, click the \u201cNew\u201d button. This opens the attribute creation form where details such as the attribute name, display type, and attribute values can be entered.The \u201cDisplay Type\u201d field is preset to \u201cRadio\u201d by default.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The \u201cVariants Creation Mode\u201d field defaults to \u201cInstantly.\u201d Values can be added in the \u201cAttribute Values\u201d section.Multiple values can be added for each attribute. Attempting to enter duplicate values for the same attribute will trigger the following alert: \u201cThe operation cannot be completed: You cannot create two values with the same name for the same attribute.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
If the display type is set to \u2018color\u2019, then values can be assigned, and custom options such as a specific value, color, or image can be provided in the Odoo attribute and also related products are displayed in the attribute.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Integration with Product Master<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n
Once you create attributes and values in Odoo, they immediately become visible in the Product Master and can be used to configure your products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • Deleting attributes:<\/strong> You can only delete an attribute if it isn\u2019t linked to any product.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Protected attributes:<\/strong> If you try to delete an attribute that\u2019s still associated with existing products, Odoo will show this message:
    \u201cYou cannot delete the attribute because it is used on the following products.\u201d<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Previous associations matter:<\/strong> Even if you unassigned an attribute and its values from all products, deletion may still be restricted if it was previously linked to products.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
