How to handle No tracking products in Odoo Good Receipt
Managing products in Odoo becomes even simpler when dealing with items that don’t require tracking. These are called No Tracking products, and Odoo has specific ways to handle them during the Goods Receipt (GR) process.
Handling No Tracking Products in Odoo Inventory
In the Product Master, the tracking option should be set to ‘No Tracking’ for products that don’t require lot or serial number tracking during goods receipt. Since there’s no requirement to record or trace individual items, the process becomes much faster and easier. This approach is ideal for products like fruits, vegetables, and loose staples, where tracking each item separately doesn’t make sense.
By removing tracking requirements, Odoo simplifies inventory management and ensures a smoother goods receipt experience.

Starting the Goods Receipt (GR) Process
Once a Purchase Order (PO) is ready, Odoo displays a Receive Products button. Clicking this button starts the Goods Receipt process and automatically generates a GR document number. At this stage, you’ll need to enter a mandatory and unique IR Number for the receipt. This number helps identify and track the overall receipt document, even though the products themselves don’t have tracking details.
For products marked as “No Tracking,” Odoo automatically sets the MRP (Maximum Retail Price) to zero. The system doesn’t calculate or apply MRP values for these items because individual cost tracking at the lot or serial level isn’t required. This reflects the simplified costing structure of non-tracked products.
When dealing with No Tracking items, Odoo uses the Product Cost as the base to calculate the selling price. The system applies a predefined margin percentage on top of the net cost to determine the final selling price.
For example, if the net cost of a product is ₹68.53 and the margin is 10%, then the selling price will be ₹75.38. This ensures consistent pricing without the need for complex tracking data.

No Lot Creation Required
Since No Tracking products don’t need lot or serial numbers, Odoo does not allow users to create lots during the Goods Receipt process. This restriction helps maintain simplicity and prevents unnecessary data entry. The system automatically skips any lot-related fields, making the process straightforward and efficient.
In the Detailed Operations tab, the Lot/Serial Number field becomes read-only for No Tracking products. Users cannot type or select any values in this field. This design ensures that tracking is not mistakenly applied to products that are meant to remain non-tracked.
Manufacturing and Expiry Dates
For products configured as No Tracking, the Manufacturing Date and Expiration Date fields are either hidden in the product master. This ensures that manufacturing and expiry details are not recorded for items that don’t need tracking. It keeps the product form clean and focused only on relevant information.
Completing the Goods Receipt Process
Once all the necessary fields are filled out, simply click Validate to complete the Goods Receipt. This confirms that the products have been received and updates the stock levels in Odoo. The GR process for No Tracking products is designed to be quick and efficient, reducing data entry effort while maintaining accurate inventory records.
