How to Manage Closest Location in Odoo18
The steps below guide you through setting up the “Closest Location” removal strategy in Odoo 18. This workflow ensures that when a product is needed for a sales order or transfer, the system automatically pulls it from the location that is physically closest to the destination point.
- Enable Storage Locations: From the Odoo web application, navigate to the Inventory module and go to Configuration -> Settings. Ensure that Storage Locations is enabled under the “Warehouse” section.
- Access Location Settings: Go to Inventory -> Configuration -> Locations. Choose a specific warehouse location (e.g., WH/Stock) to configure its default logistics behavior.
- Set Removal Strategy: In the selected location’s form, locate the Removal Strategy field under the “Logistics” section. Select Closest Location from the dropdown menu. This tells Odoo to prioritize proximity when fulfilling outgoing requests.
- Assign Removal Strategy to Products: You can also apply this strategy at the product or product category level if you want specific items to always be pulled from the nearest available shelf.
- Create a Sales Order: Navigate to the Sales module and create a New order. Add a product that is stored in multiple warehouse locations.
- Confirm and Validate Delivery: Confirm the sales order to generate a delivery transfer. Open the delivery and check the Source Location. Odoo will have automatically selected the bin or shelf closest to your packing/shipping area, reducing travel time for warehouse staff.
