Introduction About Package Reservation in Odoo18
The steps below guide you through the configuration and application of the Package Reservation feature. This workflow covers enabling the necessary settings, defining product packagings, and understanding how reservation policies affect outgoing shipments.
- Enable Packages and Packagings: Navigate to the Inventory module and go to Configuration -> Settings. Ensure that both Packages (for physical containers) and Product Packagings (for sales/purchase units) are enabled.
- Configure Product Packagings: On the product form, go to the Inventory tab to define your packaging units. For example, you can set a “Box of 10” or “Pallet of 50.” Each packaging should have its own unique name and contained quantity.
- Set the Reservation Policy: Navigate to Inventory -> Configuration -> Product Categories. Choose a category and locate the Reserve Packagings field. You can select:
- Reserve Only Full Packagings: The system will only reserve products if they form a complete package unit.
- Reserve Partial Packagings: This allows the system to reserve any available quantity, even if it doesn’t complete a full package.
- Understand the Workflow: When a Sales Order is confirmed, Odoo checks the available stock. If “Reserve Only Full Packagings” is active and your order quantity doesn’t match a full package, the system will not reserve the items, keeping the full packages intact for other orders.
- Validate the Delivery: Open the delivery order to see the reserved quantities. If the reservation policy was met, the packages will be listed in the Detailed Operations tab, showing exactly which physical packages are designated for the shipment.
