How To Manage Reservation Package in Odoo18

The steps below guide you through configuring and using the package reservation system to streamline your inventory movements:

  • Enable Product Packagings: Navigate to the Inventory module and go to Configuration -> Settings. Under the “Products” section, enable the Product Packagings checkbox and save your changes.
  • Configure Product Packages: Open a product form and go to the Inventory tab to define your packaging units (e.g., a “6-pack” or “Case of 24”). You can also set these up in the Sales tab for customer-facing options.
  • Set the Reservation Policy: Go to Inventory -> Configuration -> Product Categories and select a category. In the “Logistics” section, you can choose between two primary methods for the Reserve Packagings field:
    • Reserve Only Full Packagings: The system will only reserve products if they can fulfill a complete package unit. For example, if you sell in packs of 12 and have 22 units in stock, it will only reserve 12 (one full pack).
    • Reserve Partial Packagings: This allows the system to reserve whatever stock is available, even if it doesn’t make up a full package (e.g., reserving all 22 units in the same scenario).
  • Create and Confirm Sales Orders: When a Sales Order is created and confirmed, Odoo checks the stock based on your chosen policy. If “Only Full Packagings” is set, any loose units remain available for other orders.
  • Validate Delivery: Open the delivery transfer. You will see the reserved quantities reflected in the Operations tab. If the full amount was not reserved due to your policy, the status will show as “Partially Available” or “Waiting” until more full packages arrive.
  • Optimize Warehouse Moves: Using package reservation reduces the need for “re-picking” individual items from boxes, as the system encourages moving the entire physical package directly to the shipping area.
