How to Create a New Stock Adjustment document in Odoo

Stock adjustment in Odoo is the process of manually updating inventory levels in your system. Whether it’s due to damaged goods, theft, miscounts, or system errors, stock adjustments help ensure that the numbers in your system match the reality in your warehouse

Purpose of Stock Adjustment

To ensure proper inventory management, it’s important to correct errors in stock quantities, such as miscounts or missing items, and account for losses due to damaged, expired, or stolen goods. Maintaining accurate records ensures that the system consistently reflects actual inventory levels.

Managing stock adjustments is simple and efficient through the dashboard. To begin, go to Inventory, select Operations, and click Adjustments, then choose Stock Adjustment to view all existing transactions. On this screen, key details such as the Name, Effective Date, Document Type, Source Location, and Status are clearly displayed.

Creation Of Stock Adjustment

To create a new Stock Adjustment document, click +New. The Effective Date is automatically set to the current date, and the Company field is pre-filled with the company where the document is being created. Additionally, the Doc Type field is automatically set to Stock Adjustment by default.

Product Category Selection

One or more product categories can be selected from the drop down menu, and only products within the chosen categories will be displayed. From these displayed products, specific items can then be chosen to include in the stock adjustment.

Source Location Selection

The Source Location where the products are stored should be selected first. When a product is selected, the On-Hand Quantity displays the available stock at that location. Entering the Counted Quantity updates the stock specifically for the chosen Source Location.

Saving the Stock Adjustment Document

Clicking Save creates the Stock Adjustment record, and once saved, the system generates a unique Stock Adjustment Document Number. If a product is added before saving, the system will display an alert stating: “Please Save the Record and Create Lines.”

Adding the Products

To add a product, first select the product to be adjusted, then choose the corresponding lot or serial number. Next, enter the counted quantity for the adjustment, and finally, verify that all details are correct before proceeding.

Stock Adjustment Status

Before validation, the Stock Adjustment is in Draft status. Once validated, the status changes to “Done,” and only then are the stock changes applied in the system.
