How to Create a Return Reason in Odoo Inventory

Managing product returns efficiently is essential for any retail business. Odoo Inventory makes this process simple by allowing users to configure Return Reasons, which help categorize and track why products are being returned. This not only ensures better reporting but also helps identify recurring issues such as product defects, customer dissatisfaction, or shipment errors.

Opening the Return Reason Configuration

To begin, open the Inventory module from the main dashboard. Once inside, navigate to the Configuration menu. Under the Warehouse Management section, you will find an option labeled Return Reason.

Clicking this option will open a list displaying all existing return reasons currently configured in the system. This screen provides an overview of the predefined reasons and helps you manage or edit them if needed.

Creating a New Return Reason

If you want to add a new return reason, simply click the +New button located at the top of the list view. This action opens a new form where you can create a return reason that suits your business workflow.

The most important field in this form is the Reason for Return, and it is mandatory. You should enter a clear and meaningful name that explains why the product is being returned.

Below it, you can enter a Description, which provides additional details about the return reason. Once all details are filled in, click the Save button to store the new return reason.

For example, suppose you want to record returns due to product quality issues. In that case, you might enter “Defect Product” in the Reason for Return field.

In the Description field, you could write “Product has some defect” After entering the details, clicking Save will add this new return reason to your list. This new option will now be available whenever a product return is logged in Odoo.
