How Price List Works in iDempiere

Price List defines how products are priced for buying or selling. It controls product price, currency, tax inclusion, and validity, ensuring consistent pricing across transactions.

Price List Creation

First, create a Price List record specifying the currency, Price List Type (Sales or Purchase), and Tax Included option. This serves as the pricing rulebook for specific scenarios such as Retail Sales Price List, Wholesale Sales Price List, or Vendor Purchase Price List.

Price List Versioning

Each Price List supports multiple versions to manage price changes over time. Versions control effective dates, allowing businesses to update prices without affecting existing or past transactions, such as Version 01 effective from January 2026 and Version 02 from April 2026.

Product Price Maintenance

Product prices are maintained within each version using List Price, Standard Price, and optional Limit Price. For example, a Whey Protein Jar (1 kg) might have a List Price of ₹2,500, Standard Price of ₹2,300, and Limit Price of ₹2,100.

iDempiere provides built-in safeguards including prevention of sales below the limit price when enabled. The system also supports customer-specific and vendor-specific pricing rules while maintaining complete pricing accuracy and control.
