How Request Group Works in iDempiere
Request Group is a simple setup window used to categorize and group multiple requests together. It lets you assign a label or logical grouping to related requests so that they can be managed, processed, and reported as a unit rather than individually.
Request Group Fields
Typical fields in this window include:
- Name – A simple, meaningful title for the group
- Description – A more detailed explanation about the purpose of the group
- Comment – Additional notes for internal reference
Although the window only contains these fields, it is linked to requests from other windows in the system so that grouped requests can be filtered and tracked together.
Request Group Usage
Once defined, a Request Group can be selected when creating or updating:
- Requests (tickets or cases)
- Processes that generate or manage requests
- Reports and dashboards that show trends by group
Inside reports and forms (like the Request form), you will see a Group field that lets you assign each request to one of the defined Request Groups.
Request Group Importance
Grouping requests helps with:
- Responsibility assignment – All issues for a specific project or product version are tracked in a group
- Workload management – Teams can focus on specific groups of issues
- Reporting clarity – Easier to view counts and statuses by group
- Workflow customization – Rules and automation can be applied to entire groups
For example, for a customer site support process, all cases related to “Project X – Site Issues” can be grouped and tracked together.

The Request Group window in iDempiere provides a simple grouping mechanism for organizing and categorizing requests. It doesn’t create workflows or process logic by itself, but it enables powerful grouping and reporting capabilities when used with the Request module.
