How the Material Reference Report Works in iDempiere
The Material Reference report in iDempiere is a read-only inventory traceability report. It is used to view all material movements related to a specific product based on existing transactions already posted in the system.
The report works purely on Material Transactions (M_Transaction) data. It does not depend on accounting postings, costing runs, or production completion. If a material movement exists in the system, it can appear in this report.
Material Reference Report
The Material Reference report in iDempiere provides read-only inventory traceability for all material movements tied to a specific product, based solely on posted Material Transactions data. It operates independently of accounting postings, costing runs, or production completion—any existing material movement appears in the report.
Material Transaction References
For every material movement, the Material Reference report displays Product, Movement date, Quantity (In/Out), Warehouse and locator, and Reference document (receipt, issue, movement, production). This enables tracing material origin and destination without navigating multiple transaction windows.

Material Reference Uses
The Material Reference report is commonly used for investigating stock discrepancies, verifying material usage in projects or production, supporting internal/external audits, and understanding historical stock movements. It proves especially valuable when addressing quantity differences without focusing on accounting values.
Report Limitations
The Material Reference report does not change inventory, post accounting, calculate valuation, adjust cost, or perform any transactional updates. It functions strictly as a reference and analysis report for reviewing existing data.

Material Reference provides transaction-level visibility into inventory movement, helping businesses maintain control, accountability, and traceability of physical stock.
