How to Open a New Session in POS in Odoo
Opening a new POS session is the first step in processing transactions, ensuring all sales are recorded under the correct session for accurate tracking, setting up the opening cash balance, and selecting the cashier who will handle the transactions.
Login to POS System
Log in as the cashier, and the POS terminal will be displayed, showing the terminal name (e.g.,
CHN LS Terminal no). The closing balance will display the amount of cash entered by the cashier during the last session closing, along with the date of the last closing.

Starting a New POS Session
Click New Session to start a POS session. The system will load and ask you to select scan the badge or select a cashier to access the store. Clicking Select a Cashier displays available cashiers and head cashiers. The selected cashier will handle transactions on this terminal.

Set Opening Balance
A pop-up will appear to set a starting balance in the POS cash box. The amount you enter will represent the starting balance before any sales begin. That amount is cash in amount

Entering and Confirming Opening Cash
- Click the rupee icon to open the currency setup.
- A window will display available coin and bill denominations.
- Select the quantity of each denomination you want to use.
- The total amount will be calculated and displayed.
- Click Confirm.

Finalizing Opening Cash
After confirming, the Opening Cash will automatically populate in the corresponding field. The Opening Note will display the details of the money denominations. Click Open Session to officially start the POS session.

Continue Selling in POS
In the POS, click the menu in the top-right corner and select Backend. You’ll go back to the backend, and the session status will be displayed as Continue Selling . Now, click Continue Selling to proceed with sales.

When to Use “Continue Selling”
When a session has already been opened and you need to resume
transactions without starting a new session. Ideal for ongoing sales where the POS system was temporarily closed or inactive.Ensures continuity in sales, avoiding session delays.
