How to create a Item Type in ADempiere Retail
Item Type refers to the classification or category that defines how an item behaves in the system — especially for pricing, taxation, inventory, and sales. Each item in the product master is assigned an item type to determine how it will be processed.

What User Can Do
- Create new item types (e.g., Regular, Service, Combo, Free Item)
- Assign item type to products in product master
- Set behaviour based on item type
Pre-Requisite Activities
- Define a clear list of item type names and purposes
- Decide which item types are stock-tracked and which are not
- Configure default tax and pricing logic per item type
- Link item type behavior with POS, purchase, and inventory modules
- Test a few items with different types before enabling system-wide
Business Rules
- Item type must be selected while creating a product
- System should not allow conflicting logic (e.g., a stock item marked as service)
- Tax, pricing, and discount logic must align with item type
- Combo or bundle item types must have component linkage
- Once used in transactions, item type should not be changed
- Item types must be consistent across branches
